One of Indian Kabaddi’s most decorated players, Rakesh Kumar, U Mumba’s latest and only addition for season 3 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi, has also captained India for 7 years and is an Arjuna awardee.
A versatile player, Rakesh plays a key role in both attack and defence and is especially known for his unpredictability while raiding. Hailing from the Nizampur District in Delhi, Kumar started playing kabaddi in 1997. He played his first Senior National Game in 2000 and won Gold. He has also represented India in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, leading the team to consecutive gold medals.
Since 2003, Kumar has been employed with the Indian Railways and loves listening to music, especially Kishore Kumar as well as enjoys watching Dharmendra’s action films. He shares a close bond with Captain Anup Kumar and is working hard to help U Mumba retain the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi title.
“I am excited and grateful about this opportunity to play with the U Mumba team. I will not let them down.”
